OTTO in the Maze

Otto has wandered into the maze. He has a yellow jacket, green trousers, very

short legs — and absolutely no sense of direction. That part is up to you.

Put your finger on Otto and draw. He follows your fingertip like ink from a pen,

winding through hedges, vines, tyre walls and living flame. Lift your finger and

he stops. Simple enough for a four-year-old to understand in three seconds.

But two things are chasing him.

THE DEAD ENDS BITE

Wander down the wrong corridor and a monster erupts out of the wall with a roar.

Otto's face goes full Scream, he swells to three times his size, and pops right

back to the start. Every world has its own beast.

THE FUSE IS LIT

Shortly after Otto sets off, the rope behind him catches fire. A spark comes

creeping along his own trail. Keep moving and you will always outrun it — it only

gains ground when you hesitate or double back. Let it reach him and Otto goes off

like a firecracker. The fuse grows meaner with every world.

TEN WORLDS, SEVENTY-FIVE MAZES

The Garden, Vine Jungle, Speedway, Firewalls, Sand & Stone, Frost Caves, Sugar

Rush, Orbit Station, Smugglers Cove and Howling Castle. Each one is hand-painted,

with its own walls, its own treasure waiting at the goal — a chequered flag, a

pirate's chest, a golden crown — and its own sound for the thing chasing you.

Boards come square, round, triangular, diamond, even heart-shaped.

Beat all seventy-five and the screen explodes in confetti. What is underneath, we

are not going to spoil.

THREE DIFFICULTIES

Easy, Medium and Hard change how wide the corridors are, how fast Otto moves and

how patient the fuse is. Easy is genuinely easy. Hard is not.
