StudyX Smartpaper Letters is the digital version of Montessori's classic Sandpaper Letters, built for iPad + Apple Pencil.
The original sandpaper letters set is limited by physical materials — usually just ~26 English letters. This app contains over 10,000 characters, covering Japanese hiragana, katakana, kanji (including jōyō and name kanji), Chinese hanzi (Simplified and Traditional), Korean Hanja, the English alphabet (print and cursive), and numerals. From early literacy through elementary kanji practice and adult handwriting, one app covers it all.
With built-in scoring (comparing strokes to the model) and stroke-order animation, children can practice on their own — no parent or teacher needs to stand by.
Key features:
- Over 10,000 characters: hiragana, katakana, Japanese kanji, Simplified and Traditional Chinese hanzi, Korean Hanja, alphabet (print and cursive), and numerals
- Stroke-by-stroke tracing guidance with animation
- Real-time scoring vs. the model character
- Montessori-style color coding: vowels, consonants, and numbers
- Cursive alphabet toggle for handwriting style practice
- Saved word lists and practice history (on-device only, never sent off-device)
Optimized for iPad with Apple Pencil. Universal app — also runs on iPhone for review.
