Scratch away the black and something colourful appears underneath. That is the whole idea, and anyone gets it in about two seconds - no instructions, no lessons, no mess to clean up afterwards.

Scratchy is seven ways to play, and every one of them is unlocked the moment you open the app.

MAGIC PICTURES

Over a hundred hidden pictures - sea turtles, planets, big cats, cars, dinosaurs. Peek windows give away just enough to make a card irresistible before the first scratch.

SCRATCH THE DOTS

Every picture is also a dot-to-dot. Join the numbers to draw the animal's outline, then scratch the rest away to see the whole thing. Seven difficulty levels, from Easy to Crazy.

MAZES

Scratch a path from start to finish. Bigger sizes bring fading walls and hidden goals, so a maze stays interesting long after the first one is solved.

COLOURING PAGES

The outlines are drawn for you, in every mode that takes a picture. Fill them in with whatever colours you like.

PASS THE SQUIGGLE

A few suggestive lines land on an empty page. What can you see in them? Turn it into a picture - alone, or hand the device over and let someone else finish what you started.

FREE SCRATCH

A blank black page with rainbow hiding underneath. Scratch anywhere and the colour follows your finger.

FREE DRAW

Dozens of brushes - glow pens, charcoal, watercolour, stamps and scatter tips - plus a full colour picker, symmetry and mandala modes.

DRAW TOGETHER

Invite someone onto the same page and watch their strokes appear as they make them. Or send a Mystery Card: a sealed scratch card that opens from a link, so whoever receives it scratches your picture open themselves.

NO APP NEEDED TO OPEN A CARD

Send a Mystery Card to someone who has never heard of Scratchy and it still works. Tapping the link opens an App Clip - a tiny instant version of Scratchy that runs without installing anything - and they can scratch the card open right there.

A NOTE ON PRIVACY

Your artwork stays on your device unless you choose to share it. Sending a Mystery Card or inviting someone to draw together uploads that drawing, and any photo in it, so the other person can open it - that is the only time anything leaves the device. See our privacy policy for the details.
