DICOM View

DICOM Viewer is a focused, native macOS app for opening and reviewing DICOM (.dcm) medical imaging files. Drop in a single file, a multi-frame DCM, or an entire folder of slices — they're parsed locally on your Mac and sorted into a series you can scroll, measure and annotate.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Open one or more .dcm files, or a folder containing a series

• Scroll through slices with the slider, ← / → arrow keys, or click-and-drag

• Navigate multi-frame DICOM files frame-by-frame

• Adjust Window / Level (brightness and contrast) interactively

• Zoom with the scroll wheel (0.25× – 8×); pan with Option-drag or the Pan tool

• Measure lengths in real millimetres (using DICOM PixelSpacing when present)

• Add text annotations directly on the image

• Export the current view — image, measurements and annotations baked in — as a PNG

• Display embedded PDF documents found inside DICOM files (some radiology reports) and export them as standalone PDFs

PRIVACY FIRST

DICOM Viewer makes no network connections, transmits no data, and collects no personal information. Your imaging files never leave your Mac. The bundled privacy manifest declares zero tracking, zero data collection, and zero use of Apple's required-reason APIs.

WHO IT IS FOR

Patients reviewing their own scans, students learning anatomy, researchers exploring image datasets, and anyone with a folder of DICOM files who wants a clean, fast, native macOS viewer.

IMPORTANT — NOT FOR DIAGNOSTIC USE

DICOM Viewer is intended for educational, informational and personal review of DICOM images. It is not a regulated medical device and must not be used as the sole basis for clinical diagnosis or treatment decisions. Always consult a qualified medical professional for medical advice.

SUPPORTED FORMATS

• Implicit VR Little Endian and Explicit VR Little Endian transfer syntaxes

• 8-bit and 16-bit grayscale, signed and unsigned

• Multi-frame images

• Encapsulated PDF documents

Compressed transfer syntaxes (JPEG, JPEG 2000, JPEG-LS, RLE), Big-Endian byte order, and colour DICOM are not currently supported — these are reported clearly when encountered, never silently mis-rendered.
