With world-class animation and truly interactive gameplay, Small Talk ASL helps hearing and Deaf of all ages learn the rich and expressive ASL language in an innovative and engaging way like only animation can.

The best way to learn ASL is from a Deaf teacher. Period.

Instead, think of Oscar as a Deaf friend. For some of you, Oscar is your first Deaf friend. Don’t make him your last. Learn about Deaf culture. Seek opportunities to immerse yourself and communicate with the Deaf community. Make mistakes. Keep trying. The Deaf community is diverse and inviting and will embrace you as they have me. It might just change your life. It changed mine.

Oscar currently knows about 200 words (he is only in 3rd grade after all) but he’s learning more every day. Soon, users will be able to communicate with other characters from the Small Talk animated series (currently in development), including Oscar’s older sister Maisy (hearing), his mom Ana (Deaf), dad Cecil (hearing), and more; each with their own personality and level of ASL signing ability.

Led by a veteran Disney animator and filmmaker, Small Talk ASL (and the Small Talk Animated Series, currently in development) is being created by a gifted and generous team of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing animators, artists, and engineers, united by a mission to unify and connect people through language and empathy.
