Colour blindness is the inability to distinguish between certain colours. It results from a deficiency of colour-sensitive pigment in the cone cells of the retina. The most common form is red-green colour blindness, where red and green are perceived as the same colour. Roughly 8% of men and 0.5% of women are affected, most of them from birth.
